Badly Drawn Twenty One Pilots

Hey, dudes and dudettes! I took a little unexpected hiatus and I’m glad to be back. 🙂

Today I’d like to take a break from the usual interviews and Netflix recommendations to talk about something that is very near and dear to my heart – music. Music means a lot to me, but it’s the bands and musicians that bring my favorite songs to life. Despite a lot of my readers being fans, I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned that my favorite artist is Twenty One Pilots.

Formed in Columbus, Ohio in 2009, Twenty One Pilots is a musical duo that consists of frontman Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun. TØP is often categorized as alternative rock, despite the fact that their discography also has a plethora of pop, rap, reggae, electronic, hip-hop, and ukulele screamo. Yes, ukulele screamo.

I think what attracted me to this band is their brutal honesty. The brilliantly twisted lyrics about battling anxiety and self-doubt are what makes them so relatable, no matter what age you are.

The subtle Christian themes are also a big part of why I like this band so much. Both members are pretty outspoken regarding their faith.

One day, my friend Clara and I were sitting in a pizza restaurant eating mozzarella sticks. She says to me, “have you ever heard of “Twenty One Pilots?” and I say “who????”.

Thank you for planting the seed, Clara.

Three years later, I’m on a road trip to Savannah, Georgia armed with nothing but my phone, earbuds, and a Spotify account that I refuse to pay premium for. Chlorine is in my recommendations, so I decide to give it a listen. Not to be dramatic or anything, but that song changed my life.

I encourage you to listen to music that makes you think, cry, laugh, and feel happy. Life goes by too quickly and should be spent doing things that make you feel alive. I’m thankful for the happiness Twenty One Pilots has brought me through their music. It makes me feel less alone in this world.

Who are some of your favorite artists/bands? I’d love to hear from you in the comment section. 🙂

As always, thank you for reading. I hope that this article brought some sort of happiness to your day. Stay safe out there, folks!
