An Interview with Karis Marie @ An Introvert’s Soapbox

*waves excitedly* Hey, guys! Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet. I hope you’re having a great Monday so far. 💓

Within the past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to interview Karis Marie from An Introvert’s Soapbox. I discovered her blog via her Instagram when I saw we had some mutual friends. I was instantly drawn to her blog because of its beautifully curated feminine aesthetic. Her site truly is everything you could ever want in a blog, and Karis executes everything so perfectly.

By the end of this post, I know you will be as big a fan of her as I am. 🙂

An interview with Karis Marie @ An Introvert’s Soapbox

Rebekah Banister: How long have you been blogging?

Karis Marie: Just about three months, which sounds so weird to say because I feel like I’ve been working on this project for forever. Fun fact, I actually built my site on my own, it’s not a template. I began building it last June and didn’t finish it until this January, so I feel like it’s been up and running for much longer than it truly has.

RB: Who/What inspired you to start a blog?

KM: I remember stumbling across Jenny Cipoletti’s blog, Margo and Me. It wasn’t that I wanted to be her, but I wanted to be like her, traveling the world and writing about it. It hadn’t occurred to me before then that some women were able to blog full time. After that, I figured I had nothing to lose and began work on launching An Introvert’s Soapbox.

RB: Your photos are amazing! What kind of camera do you use?

KM: Thank you! This is a funny question for me because I swing back and forth between the two extremes here. My most recent Instagram photos were taken on my iPhone SE, a combination of self-timer photos and sometimes my brother on a ladder (he only takes pictures for me if I buy him gummy worms). Then, on the other hand, my Dad is a professional photographer, and he took pretty much all of my blog’s photos, so those were taken with several of his fancy cameras, I couldn’t tell you which because I have no clue. He let me edit the photos, and there was definitely a bit of a learning curve there, so my edits don’t do his images justice.

RB: How would you describe your aesthetic?

KM: Oh goodness, I’m not sure how to describe an aesthetic in general. I guess, for me, I’d say that if you were in the French countryside and happened to see a girl in a lace dress spinning around in a random patch of wildflowers along some random dirt road, that would be me. Yeah. I’ll just leave it at that.

RB: Do you read any other blogs? If so, do you have a favorite?

KM: Yes! I feel like you have to love reading blogs if you’re a blogger, it just kind of comes with the territory. I feel so horrible picking a favorite because I love so many, but Officially Quigley is just the prettiest, most inspiring blog. I’d encourage anyone to read it. Quigley is so sweet and has such a fun personality, and she’s gorgeous and has a beautiful sense of style.

RB: Favorite food?

KM: It’s an Indian dish called butter chicken. I don’t even like meat, but when I tell you this is incredible, I mean it’s life-changing.

RB: Favorite animal?

KM: These probably don’t count as animals in the real world, but in mine they do. Butterflies. I want to have a butterfly garden someday.

RB: Can you recommend a good Netflix show?

KM: NCIS is so good. I watched Criminal Minds for forever, but it got to be too much because I can only handle so much violence. I switched to NCIS, and yeah the characters are fantastic on both shows, I’m very attached to all of them.

RB: What are three instagram accounts that everyone should follow?

KM: • @marta_sierra – her feed is stunning and basically documents her travels

@kyliekatich – she plays a lot with movement and perspective in her photos which I love and her feed is also amazing

@officiallyquigley – I love everything that she’s doing, it’s so fun and inspiring and again, her feed is gorgeous

RB: If you could speak to your past self, what would you say?

KM: You should have gone on more picnics when you still had the time and packed cake instead of salad because why did you do that. Also, lie. Write down the most interesting lies you can imagine, and then figure out how to make them plausible. Not lies like, “Mom, I swear, I didn’t eat the cookies.” I mean lies as in dreams so improbable that they don’t seem real or achievable, fight for those because they’re not as far off as they seem. Sorry, that was a tad cheesy, I know. I can be like that sometimes.

RB: If you could speak to your future self, what would you say?

KM: Have you used anything you learned in calculus yet in the real world? But in all seriousness, I think I’d say that I’d better still be dancing. Dance, ballet, in particular, makes me so happy, and it’s something that I want to take with me always.

RB: Favorite movie?

KM: Tangled. I want to be Rapunzel.

RB: How would you describe your style?

KM: I’m actually still trying to figure this out for myself. I think it’s super girly and feminine, but also colorful and maybe sometimes a little bit weird.

RB: Favorite musician/band?

KM: I don’t really have one because I listen to so many different artists. Today my favorite is Saint Motel because I’m thinking of the song “For Elise,” but tomorrow it might be Alex Aster because of the song “Divine.”

RB: What’s the greatest book you’ve ever read?

KM: STRANGE THE DREAMER. I legitimately can’t shut up about this book. It reached this point where I was driving my friends so crazy about it that I had to go ahead and write a blog post about it just to say all the words.

RB: Lastly, what’s your favorite thing about blogging?

KM: It’s the best creative outlet. That’s why I love blogging. I can do stuff like rave about a book I’m loving or show-off an outfit I’m proud of, but I can also share advice or talk about my experience and relate with others. Plus, I get to do stuff like plan fun photoshoots and dream up blog content. There’s so much room for creativity with a blog, and that’s my favorite part about blogging.

I’d like to once again thank Karis for allowing me to interview her. I had such a fun time, and I hope to do it again one day. 🙂

  1. I loved reading this interview! Especially when she described her aesthetic as a French girl in the countryside, that was just a delight to think of! Thank you for sharing!
