Clara @ Midnight Mind Talks Blogging, Strawberry Ice Cream, and How Random Strangers Influence Her Writing

Hey there, readers! Today I have a special treat for you all, and no, it’s not strawberry ice cream. I’ve recently had the chance to interview everyone’s favorite blogger, Clara from Midnight Mind and Clara-and-Co.

Clara is a talented photographer, veteran blogger, and one of my dearest friends. Unlike a lot of my internet pals, I actually know Clara in real life, and have always admired her writing and consider her one of my greatest influences. She has the ability to turn a simple thought into a whimsical story full of laughter, happiness, and tears, which is truly a talent that only few people possess.

The lovely Clara of Midnight Mind and Clara-and-Co.

Let’s get right into the interview. 🙂

Rebekah Banister: How long have you been blogging?

Clara: I believe I’ve been blogging for a little over five years. 🙂

RB: What’s your favorite thing about blogging?

C: THE HUMANS. People are so kind and encouraging in this little community, and I’ve met several wonderful friends through blogging. 😀

RB: I agree! I love the blogging community. What’s the greatest book you’ve ever read?

C: I… have to pick one? *whimper* The first book that comes to mind is Okay For Now by Gary D. Schmidt, simply because it’s one of the most perfectly written and executed stories I’ve ever read. I could list similar books all day, though—I guess that wasn’t really an answer. XD

RB: Oh, girl, I feel you! There are so many good books out there. Who influences your writing the most?

C: Ahhhh, this is hard. All of my favorite authors influence my writing, of course! However, on a more personal level, so do my family and my friends and random strangers that I see on the sidewalk at midnight. *confused look* I can’t really pick one specific person. 😛

RB: I am a huge fan of your photography! What kind of camera do you use?

C: My camera is a Nikon D7000 named Ellington and I love her. 🙂

RB: That’s a lovely name for a camera! What’s your favorite food?

C: It changes all the time, but right now I would probably sacrifice a sibling for a strawberry ice cream cone from this local farm that we go to sometimes. There’s something about only being able to get it in the summer that makes it taste extra-marvelous.

RB: I believe that strawberry ice cream is seriously underrated. Do you have a favorite animal?

C: I’m rather partial to the fluffy, loving, endlessly happy, and extremely huggable creatures known as DOGS.

RB: Dogs are the greatest creatures alive! Can you recommend a good Netflix show?

C: Alas, I cannot, for I watch Netflix only a few times a year, usually when I’m sick, so all that comes to mind are blurry nature documentaries that I may or may not have dreamed up in my fever-induced stupor. *solemn nod*

RB: What are three Instagram accounts that everyone should follow?

C: There are so many great ones, but I really love @humansofny, @monaris_, and @jeremycowart. All three accounts in their own unique way and they never fail to blow my mind.

RB: If you could speak to your past self, what would you say?

C: Hmm, let’s see… I think I’d say: Please, for the sake of your family and just the world in general, calm down. 😀 Also, a whole world of music exists outside of Owl City. You have no idea what you’re missing. *pats my past self on the head*

RB: If you could speak to your future self, what would you say?

C: I don’t think my future self would be too pleased to hear from me. XD I honestly have no idea what I’d say. Hello? I hope you’re alive? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

RB: Do you have a favorite movie?

C: Anything Pixar, but I especially love Up and all the Toy Story movies. Also, the LOTR trilogy is epic.

RB: How would you describe your style?

C: Big comfortable t-shirts, jeans, sometimes braided hair, and whatever random socks I grabbed in the dark the night before. *nod*

RB: I can relate to the random sock grabbing. Do you have a favorite musician/band?

C: Can I pick ten instead of one? *doesn’t wait for an answer* Judah & The Lion, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, Jason Isbell, Lori McKenna, Sleeping At Last, NEEDTOBREATHE, Trampled by Turtles, The Avett Brothers, Lord Huron, and The Hunts are some of my all-time favorite bands. 😀

RB: Lastly, what’s your opinion on pineapple as a pizza topping?

C: As someone who’s never tried this highly controversial topping, I have no particular opinion on the matter. XD Thank you for interviewing me, Bekah! I had fun answering your questions. 🙂 *strawberry ice cream all around*

That’s all, folks! I encourage you to check out Clara’s blogs and her Instagram, @claraandcophoto, as well as @projectdictionary, where she uses one word from the dictionary as a photo prompt, every day of 2020.

I’d like to thank Clara again for allowing me to interview her. I had a blast! 🙂 *another round of strawberry ice cream*

Have a wonderful day and please be safe out there. We are living in crazy times. 💓

  1. *sigh* I desperately want to actually see you in person again and do something fun together. Maybe by the time we’re both 80 we’ll actually do it. XD Thanks again for the interview, it was quite fun to do. 🙂 ❤
